Improvisation as a Key to Interpretation

Teachers’ Topic of the Day by Matthias Ziegler:

Art is born out of human creativity; this Art becomes all the more powerful when it includes the CREATIVE PROCESS as well as the RESULT OF THIS PROCESS.
Looking into the process of creating music asks for a profound understanding of Improvisation. The result of the process of composition requires interpretation… and understanding the fundamental role that improvisation plays in creation helps to broaden and deepen an interpretation.

Music – whether improvised or composed – is always perceived within the evolution of time and can therefore only be understood after the last note of a piece has faded away. The feed forward process and the feedback process are equally involved in music making.
